Galerie is a macOS menu bar application that displays fine art masterpieces as your desktop wallpaper. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Information We Collect

Galerie does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.

Local Data Only

All data created by Galerie is stored locally on your device:

Preferences: Your settings (rotation interval, selected artists, medium filters) are stored locally using macOS User Defaults.
Cached Images: Downloaded artwork images are cached locally on your device to improve performance and reduce bandwidth usage.
No Accounts: Galerie does not require user accounts or authentication.
No Analytics: We do not collect usage analytics, crash reports, or any telemetry data.

Network Requests

Galerie connects to the following museum APIs to retrieve artwork information and images:

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (metmuseum.org)
Art Institute of Chicago (artic.edu)
Rijksmuseum (rijksmuseum.nl)
Cleveland Museum of Art (clevelandart.org)
Paris Musées (parismusees.paris.fr)

These connections are made solely to fetch publicly available artwork data and images. No personal information is sent to these services.

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your Mac:

Location: ~/Library/Caches/Galerie/
Contents: Cached artwork images and thumbnails
Control: You can clear this cache at any time from the app’s preferences

Galerie uses public museum APIs that are subject to their own privacy policies:

Children’s Privacy

Galerie does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 years of age. The app displays museum artwork appropriate for all ages.
